Volunteers brush aside vandals to reopen refurbished charity shop as planned

A Macclesfield charity shop has reopened following a refurbishment.
The Samaritans store on Pickford Street welcomed customers for the first time in over a month on Wednesday, August 20.
Thanks to the hard work of volunteers, the shop has been extended and given a fresh new look.
A Samaritans spokesperson said: "We had a queue when we opened this morning which was great!
"One customer said she'd been shopping here since we first opened all those years ago and couldn't wait to get inside.
"Huge thanks to everyone involved and to all the business who contributed to the renovation."
They added: "We rely solely on volunteers to manage and run the Samaritans shop and all profits go to pay for our Listening Branch on King Edward's Street in Macclesfield.
"Our renovation was managed solely by volunteers, from employing an architect, to finding a reliable builder, and then using family and friends to get the fittings in and then restocking the shop.
"The shop is now wonderfully bright, extended into the back, clean and airy and today our customers were queuing out of the shop before we opened."

The reopening comes just days after the shop was targeted by vandals, who smashed the front window.
Thankfully, Wilmslow Glass donated and fitted a window, meaning the store could reopen as planned.
"They were fantastic," the spokesperson added.
"We are all so happy to have the shop back open.
"The volunteers in the shop are amazing and they have worked so hard to get the shop ready."
