Macclesfield is getting ready to ramp up the festive vibes.

The annual Twilight Market makes its return this Thursday, December 11.

Organised by Macclesfield Town Council, it offers the perfect opportunity to get into the Christmas spirit with live music, bauble decorating and plenty of present shopping.

Rachael Higham, the council's events officer, said: "We're looking forward to welcoming people back into town for the Twilight Market.

"We love this event as an opportunity to shop, socialise and enjoy the Christmassy atmosphere under the twinkling lights of the Christmas tree.

"This time of year can be so hectic but we think the Twilight Market is the perfect opportunity to take a pause and just enjoy the best parts of the season; a mulled wine with friends under the heated tipi, listening to some live music with local street food after exploring the makers market – what could be better?"

The Twilight Market runs from 2pm to 8pm, with live music throughout.

First up is the Whirley School Choir, who will be kicking things off at 2pm with a selection of festive favourites.

The Stray Santas, a New Orleans-inspired ensemble, take to the stage for a two-hour set from 3.15pm.

At 5.30pm, singer/songwriter Jess Kemp makes her Twilight Market debut, having previously featured on BBC Radio 2 and BBC Introducing.

Closing the show is Macclesfield Light Orchestra, a local amateur orchestra.

Alongside all of this, you can browse the Made in Macclesfield market and start ticking off that Christmas list.

Adam Schofield and Melissa Wilkinson, founders of Made in Macclesfield, said: "We're delighted to be working with Macclesfield Town Council again to bring some of our 'Made in Macclesfield' makers to the Twilight Market.

"We love how this event can help support and promote so many local makers, and really showcase just how creative and talented the people of Macclesfield are."

Elsewhere, little ones can take part in bauble decorating workshops hosted by the Mayor of Macclesfield, councillor Emma Gilman.

Held at Macclesfield Community ArtSpace and costing just £2 per bauble, the workshop will help to raise funds for Cardiac Risk in the Young and Friends of Park Lane Special School.
