White Nancy 'joins campaign' to 'SAVE BOLLINGTON TIP'
One of Bollington's best-known landmarks has joined the campaign to 'save' the town's household waste recycling centre.
As reported extensively by Macclesfield Nub News, Cheshire East is looking to 'mothball' Bollington tip.
White Nancy, atop Kerridge Hill, has now been dressed in a banner to 'SAVE BOLLINGTON TIP'.
Usually jet white, the commemorative structure has been clad in farm industrial-grade bin liners, and a 'SAVE BOLLINGTON TIP' banner.
'SAVE BOLLINGTON TIP' banners can also be found at other Bollington landmarks like Bollington Viaduct.
However, White Nancy is known nationally, and is a Grade II listed building. So it is perhaps the most high profile 'endorsement', of the 'SAVE BOLLINGTON TIP' campaign.
Photos of the new-look White Nancy has received hundreds of likes on Facebook.
One person joked that it looked like a pint of Guinness. A business has even recorded drone footage of the new-look White Nancy.
Yesterday, Cheshire East Council responded to Macclesfield Nub News' question on rumours that Bollington tip could become housing.
A spokesperson for Cheshire East Council, said: "The council will not respond to unfounded and baseless speculation. As previously stated, the longer-term provision of household waste recycling centre services in Cheshire East will be considered by the council's environment and communities committee later this year."
White Nancy was built in 1817 to commemorate the victory at the Battle of Waterloo.
Decorating White Nancy is nothing new. Over the years, it has been painted pink and the colours of the Olympics.
In 2017, a bee was painted on in solidarity with the Manchester Ariana Grande concert terror attack victims.
The following year, a tribute to The Fall frontman Mark E. Smith was painted on White Nancy.
