Cameras have popped up on roadsides across Macclesfield.
Cheshire East Council has now confirmed these are part of a two-week-long transport study.
It is said the findings will help to decide where 'future investment' is needed.
A spokesperson for the council said: "The cameras that have been recently installed in parts of Macclesfield are part of a new transport study funded by the council.
"They will be in place for approximately two weeks and will help plan where future investment in the town's infrastructure is needed."

Cameras have been spotted in several locations around Macclesfield, including the Silk Road, Hurdsfield Road, Chester Road, the Weston Estate and Broken Cross.
Signs located underneath each of the cameras explains that they are operated by Tracsis Traffic Data Limited.
"CCTV in operation," the signs state.
"For the purposes of collecting roadside video footage, for retrospective analysis to establish traffic flow statistics.
"This equipment is not used to enforce any traffic laws.
"The images being captured are in compliance with GDPR/UK Data Protection legislation.
"Data is routinely deleted after a period of three months unless there is a legitimate reason for retention."
