The Macclesfield born-and-bred install manager proving to be a key component at GEC Home Improvements

By Matthew Hancock-Bruce 19th Sep 2025

A Macclesfield born-and-bred joiner is helping drive a local home improvements company into an exciting new era.

GEC Home Improvements has been enjoying a hugely prosperous period, with their new 'wow factor' showroom up and running and a diary that is all but full until the end of the year.

A lot of that success can be traced back to their install manager, Macclesfield resident Dave Dean, who joined the company just over two years ago.

"I don't want to say it's all down to me. It's down to all of us, because we've all pulled together as a team," Dave said.

Head of operations Scott Hulme added: "I think the reason it is working, is that the team, headed by Dave on-site, are focused on providing the best customer service possible.

"We want that customer experience to be pleasurable. The only way to do that is by offering first class service and under Dave's guidance, that is now apparent."

Dave, 54, entered the industry as soon as he left school, starting as a joiner with East Cheshire Glass.

He stayed there for 16 years before going self-employed.

Fast forward two decades and the stars aligned for Dave and GEC Home Improvements to join forces.

Scott said: "When Dave joined us, I've said it many times and I don't mind saying it again in front of him, it was like all our Christmases had come at once.

"Dave doesn't like to blow his own trumpet, but he is probably one of the best installers in the country, in terms of wanting to make sure the customer is happy. His standards are sky high."

Since Dave joined, one of GEC's greatest achievements has been the development of their showroom 200 square metre showroom at Sutton Garrison Business Park, just off Byron's Lane.

He said: "For two years we have worked hard to get the showroom to where it is. Now all that hard work is paying off!"

With everything falling into place, GEC Home Improvements are not only looking to invest in their sales and install teams but are confident of adding new products to their existing portfolio.

Scott said: "Dave is giving us that opportunity to expand and diversify, which you need to in this current climate.

"We need to expand now because we are victims of our own success, we've just got that busy!

"We've got to approach it and do something about it before our service levels start to drop because that's the last thing we want.

He added: "We need to look at bringing new staff in and nurturing them, getting them to our standards.

"Not only does Dave have a wealth of knowledge but he is passing that knowledge and experience on to our team, so their standards have risen."
