Charity football tournament in memory of widow's late husband returns for second edition

A charity football tournament in memory of a widow's late husband returns next month.
The second annual Kyle's Legacy Tournament takes place in July.
Tytherington resident Kate Donnelly set up the event in memory of her husband Kyle, who passed away in 2023 age just 39, as a result of bone cancer.
Kate, 37, said: "Losing Kyle has been the hardest thing our family has ever experienced, particularly as we had two young children and had only been married just shy of one year, after nine years together in total.
"There isn't a day that goes by that we don't think about him or miss him. He was just the most wonderful human, so kind and caring, he had an absolute heart of gold. He was my best friend and I was head over heels in love with him and always will be.
"Nearly three years on and it still hurts just as much as the day we had to say goodbye, but you learn to carry it with you and personally for me I've learnt that the deep loss I feel is a reflection of the deep love that we shared, so even though the pain will never fade, neither will the love.
"And that is why finding ways to celebrate Kyle's life, his memory and the impact he had on so many people is so important. If we keep remembering him, honouring him and saying his name, he can never truly be gone."

Kyle was diagnosed with osteosarcoma, an aggressive form of primary bone cancer, in September 2022 at the age of 38.
Unfortunately, having been misdiagnosed repeatedly, by this point the cancer had spread to his spine and lung, making it inoperable.
Throughout his life Manchester United fan Kyle had 'lived and breathed' football.
As such, Kate felt there was no better way to honour him than with a charity competition.
The first edition of Kyle's Legacy Tournament held in 2025, with 12 teams helping to raise over £2,000 for the Bone Cancer Research Trust.
This year's event takes place on Saturday, July 18, at Jasmine Park.
Six-a-side teams (over 15s only) are invited to sign up here, with a donation of £80 per team required.
There will also be a bar, BBQ, tombola and games to keep the whole family entertained.

Kate said: "We are so proud as a family of what we have achieved so far with fundraising, and every penny helps Bone Cancer Research to take another step closer in finding a cure for this dreadful disease.
"Bone cancer is a deadly killer and what breaks my heart most is that it quite often occurs in teenagers, and the treatments haven't significantly changed now for over 35 years.
"We don't want anyone else to lose their loved ones and suffer the way Kyle did."
