England take on the Netherlands in the Euros tonight, with the chance to be in the Euro 2024 final.

And near Macclesfield, there is local sporting success to celebrate too.

That's because for the second year running, Gawsworth Primary School's Lacrosse Team, Gawsworth Greats, have become the National Pop Lacrosse Champions.

The team took great pride in their victory last year, and they proved that their success was not a fluke but a display of their commitment, skill and talent.

The team won all matches that they played during the competition and faced their greatest rivals from Mellor Primary School for the Finals where they played the game of a season ensuring a 10-4 win. The team and school gave thanks to their coaches, Rachel Fregapane and James Holt. They reflected the School and Trust values with their dedication, drive and patience in ensuring the team could develop, improve and take the trophy again.

Headteacher Lisa Wainwright said: "To win the National Pop Lacrosse Championship once is truly incredible, but to win it two years in a row shows the undeniable talent of our children at Gawsworth."

"Our team played their group games with skill and incredible sportsmanship and we could not be prouder of this incredible group of children."

Fallibroome Trust CEO, Jeremy Spencer, said: "This is a truly remarkable achievement. My congratulations go to the pupils involved and their coaches. I know that a significant amount of hard work and dedication, often behind the scenes, has gone into this."

"I am proud to say that sports and the wider curriculum play a huge role in helping to develop positive, healthy minds and bodies within pupils across all our Trust schools."

This national championship success has been reflected by other Fallibroome Trust schools over the last season and has shown how important sport and competition are within the Trust.

In March, the team from Whirley Primary School competed in the National Trampolining Finals and took the trophy. This was the first year that the team had competed and they showed dedication in their training and grace under pressure during the competition and took first place.

Meanwhile in June, the Winsford Academy Year 8 Girls' Football Team became the first Cheshire team to compete at the Under 13's National Cup Finals against tournament favourites Shenfield High School.

Gawsworth Primary School, Whirley Primary School and The Winsford Academy are proud to be part of The Fallibroome Trust, a family of academy schools committed to providing an exceptional education that equips young people with the character, knowledge and skills to meet the challenges of a changing world. We live by the Trust's values of Respect, Integrity and Optimism and have a clear vision to meet the level of the best.
