John Rooney has been named the National League North manager of the month.

It comes after an impressive start to the campaign which saw the Silkmen go unbeaten in six games throughout August.

Macc soared to the top of the table with wins over Marine, Radcliffe, Brackley Town, Darlington and Hebburn Town, along with a draw away at Spalding United.

"We are delighted to confirm that Manager John Rooney has won the Enterprise National League North Manager of the Month for August," reads a statement released by the club.

"It was an almost perfect opening to the campaign for John Rooney's side, with them taking 16 points from their first 18 games.

"A massive congratulations to Roons, the entire coaching staff and the playing squad on their impressive start to the season."

Luke Duffy was nominated for player of the month, having scored three and assisted two in Macclesfield's opening set of fixtures.

However, it wasn't to be for the winger, with Scarborough Athletic's Rio Allan claiming the award instead.

The 22-year-old struck seven times in August, meaning he has nearly eclipsed his tally of 10 goals from last season already.
