Macclesfield Tennis Club is preparing to welcome the community after making some big changes.

Having realised courts four and five, located right outside the clubhouse, were 'past their best', the club's committee allocated over £100,000 to make the necessary improvements.

The 'new courts' were laid in March, ready for the club's Spring Opener on Wednesday, April 1, and the fast-approaching Summer Season fixtures.

Long-standing member and ex-president Margaret Jordan said: "In recent weeks, the courts at Macclesfield Tennis Club have been upgraded, much to the delight of the players.

"It was an elaborate operation with the old surface and lower layers stripped off.

"The courts had developed some eccentric bounces as the underlying layers had slightly subsided over time.

"Although the courts were out of action for some time, the improvement is fantastic. No excuses now!

"With many teams in the local leagues and cup competitions, we are rightly proud of our club and the ongoing development of the facilities.

In order to make the most of the new and improved facilities, coach Jonny Healey and his coaching team have been working hard behind the scenes to open-up as many avenues as possible for members and newcomers alike.

That includes the new 'walking tennis' group, which has proven to be popular with those who have mobility issues and enjoy tennis at a more accessible pace.

Macclesfield Tennis Club has also established a collaborative link with the associated pickleball club.

The upcoming lighter evenings will allow for more playing and social prospects, and it also marks the start of the Northeast Cheshire 'Summer Season', with the club fielding five men's and five ladies' teams this year.

To find out more, visit the club's website or pop along to their Open Day on Sunday, May 17.

There will be free tennis coaching and introduction to pickleball sessions throughout the day.

They will also have courts setup with ball machines, speed guns and targets, giving you the chance to win prizes and see how fast you can serve.
