OPINION: Global Justice Macclesfield reflect on the 'intolerable' situation in Gaza

Israel and Palestine. So many words have been written. So many feelings of love for the land but hate for others.
A melting pot of history, religion, politics, culture, economics causing what seems to be an insoluble cauldron of hate.
There are some voices who want to find a peaceful solution that accommodates all but the loudest at present only want destruction.
This has been going on for many decades before October 7, 2023.
Israel with its vastly superior military capability is currently smashing to bits all of Gaza; buildings, people, society, health system, agriculture.
Most egregiously to any independent observer both inside and outside Gaza a man-made famine made worse by a so-called humanitarian system of delivering food that is exploited by the Israeli army on a regular basis to kill unarmed civilians queuing for food.
There is no accountability.

The situation in The West Bank is only slightly better where violent settlers supported by the Israeli army are slowly squeezing the Palestinians off the land.
The background is complex but the current situation is intolerable.
The UK government has taken some steps to make its displeasure known but could go much further in terms of actions; economic, cultural and academic.
There will be a silent vigil from 5pm to 6pm on Friday, September 5, outside Macclesfield Town Hall. We invite you to join this act of solidarity with the people of Gaza.
