Store Manager Chris Rose, who is celebrating one-year in charge of the store this month, explained why he wanted to do this good deed.

"We've donated £450 worth of food with the help of two other Macclesfield Co-op stores", he said.

"I saw on social media that they were short on supplies. We're keen to support them with what they desperately need.

"We know people are in times of need at the moment. And some Co-op stores in Macclesfield have donation points for Silklife as well [Bollington Co-op], so I thought it would be a good fit to help out in the community."

Silklife Foodbank is located at George Street in Macclesfield town centre.

Dan Blackman, Team Lead of Silklife Foodbank told Macclesfield Nub News: "Silklife Foodbank are really grateful for the support being offered by the Cooperative stores in Macclesfield.

"At a time when the 'Cost of Living Crisis' is biting hardest, we really value the support of workplaces to help us to help others at a time of great challenge. Thank you to those who have led the way to spearhead this much needed support."

Co-op Member Pioneer Louise Little explained how the Co-op could afford to make the donation.

"The donation was funded by Co-op members using their Co-op cards when they shop.

The store will also be donating thousands of pounds to Macclesfield causes later this year. (Image - Macclesfield Nub News)

"2p from every £1 spent goes to good causes."

Co-op Membership helps support Co-op's initiatives like these and national charity partners, and Local Community Fund causes.

The kind gesture follows the same Co-op store donating almost six grand to Macclesfield charities and organisations last year.
