Macclesfield: Our town is getting a new gym and electric car garage, according to a planning document submitted to Cheshire East Council last month.

An electric car garage, a new gym, B&M and a fast food restaurant.

These are the latest shops set to be coming to Macclesfield's new retail park.

A Cheshire East planning document reveals an advertising board, mentioning chained businesses we knew were coming to the Barracks Mill development off've Black Lane, and some we didn't.

As well as a Costa Coffee, Aldi and M&S Simply Food, we have further confirmation that a new Macclesfield B&M store will open away from the high street.

The future of the Exchange Street B&M remains unknown, as the Liverpool-based discount retailers will not respond to comment.

However, unverified reports on social media and through talking to to staff suggests the B&M on Exchange Street is to shut once the shops on Barracks Mill is ready to open in Winter 2022/Early 2023.

There are also two new names on a totem pole that will be placed outside Barracks Mill, near to 'big Tesco'.

The first is 'signage for The Gym Group to be agreed'. Which implies the gymnasium brand is coming to Macclesfield in a matter of months, but haven't finalised their logo yet.

The new gym will provide competition to nearby independent Hurdsfield gym 5S Fitness, and the other gyms across Macclesfield.

The other new enterprise earmarked for the new retail park is a name you might not recognise - BP Pulse.

Stylised in lowercase letters 'bp pulse' is the trading name of Chargemaster Limited, and is one of the largest electric vehicle charging companies in the UK.

They'll offer rapid car charging, which is currently lacking in that part of Macc. It will likely be a mere collection of ports, rather than a building.

Both The Gym Group and bp pulse spokespersons did not respond to comment.

Macclesfield Nub News will hope to confirm further details at a later date.

Of the seven filled Barracks Retail Park totem spaces, there is one vacant. Currently described as 'signage for fast food outlet to be agreed'.

It is likely to be KFC or Nandos, having both been hotly-tipped to serve their chicken there.

Midlands company Gould Singleton Architects have designed the board, which will feature backlit illuminated box signs.

It is quite possible with the night-lighting and nature of the business, that The Gym and bp pulse will be 24 hour operations.

The Cheshire East planning document is also the first time the new Costa has been revealed to be a Drivethru, offering a different offering to the Costa inside the Hurdsfield Road Tesco next door to Barracks Mill, and the one in the town centre.

The collection of signs will be located north of the entrance to the new 78,000 square foot retail park.

A final decision will be made on the advertising totem on March 14.
