Macclesfield Nub News is two years old today! So we're counting down our most popular articles EVER!

In the midst of the first lockdown, on April 1 2020, Macclesfield Nub News launched.

Our mission was clear from the start. We wanted to bring clickbait-free, independent journalism to Macclesfield.

We operate with one staff member who writes 20-30 articles per week.

Two years later, we have over 20,000 weekly views, and 5,000 followers on Facebook.

Thank you for your support of our free news platform for all things Macc.

To celebrate, we are counting down our ten most read Macclesfield Nub News stories of all time.

Here's the articles you have loved the most since April 1 2020.

  1. Coronavirus survivor praises 'brilliant' staff at Macclesfield hospital

Way back in April 2020, we spoke with one of the first coronavirus survivors at Macclesfield Hospital.

The man and his wife were full of praise for the staff at our town's hospital on Victoria Road.

It is a fascinating local take interpreting how COVID-19 was perceived in the first days of the pandemic.

  1. CONFIRMED: Macclesfield Marks & Spencer to leave high street and relocate

Our ninth most read story of all-time is the only sad story on the list. But an important one nonetheless.

Having over a quarter-of-a-million views on Facebook, and a couple thousand article clicks, our coverage of the Black Lives Matter movement in June 2020 was one of the first big hits for Macc Nub.

The article includes a gallery of photos captured by a Bollington-based photographer.

Another Barracks Mill Retail Park story. In September 2021, we were delighted to confirm that Macclesfield would now host not one but TWO Aldi's.

Their store on Queen Victoria Street will stay open, even as the new out-of-town one opens off've Black Lane.

We also confirmed that 40 extra jobs would be created for residents of our town.

The idea isn't that farfetched, as up until last November, Congleton had two Aldi's and that is half the size of our town!
