A Macclesfield secondary school headteacher has praised students, staff and the wider community following a hugely positive Ofsted inspection.

Tytherington School is celebrating the publication of a glowing Ofsted report.

Understood to be one of the strongest published in the North West under Ofsted's new inspection framework, the report recognises the school as 'strong' in five key areas.

Headteacher Manny Botwe said: "For many years, we have spoken about developing A* people, not simply achieving A* grades.

"I am delighted that this report recognises exactly that.

"It reflects the hard work of our students, the dedication of our staff and the support of our parents and wider community."

Unlike the previous inspection framework, Ofsted no longer awards schools a single overall judgement such as outstanding or good.

Instead, schools receive separate judgements across several key areas.

In its guidance for parents, Ofsted explains that a 'strong' judgement is awarded to schools that have been doing 'excellent work for a long time' and are 'making a real difference to children'.

The report, published on July 13, recognises Tytherington School as strong in curriculum and teaching, inclusion, leadership and governance, personal development and wellbeing, and sixth form provision.

Meanwhile, achievement and attendance and behaviour were both judged to meet the expected standard, with safeguarding confirmed to be meeting all statutory requirements.

The report reads: "Pupils and students are proud to belong to this school. They understand that leaders and staff have high expectations of them. Pupils also accept that these expectations prepare them well for their future.

"Pupils develop a secure and deep understanding of what they learn through very effective teaching. Pupils who face challenges to their learning or wellbeing are confident to ask for help.

"Results in national examinations, including A-level qualifications, are positive. Pupils leave the school well prepared for their next steps and move on to ambitious destinations."

On where the school could improve, the report adds: "Leaders should strengthen their efforts to identify and tackle barriers to attendance so that rates of attendance for all pupils continue to improve to consistently high levels.

"Leaders should continue to embed their strategies to ensure the achievement gap between disadvantaged and non-disadvantaged pupils narrows further."

Mr Botwe said: "We have never viewed inspection as the destination.

"It is an important milestone, but our ambition remains unchanged.

"We will continue to build on this report and ensure that every young person receives an exceptional education and leaves Tytherington ready to flourish."
