Macclesfield Town Hall to be transformed into an art fair for charity
An iconic building in Macclesfield will host an art fair at the end of this month.
Macclesfield Town Hall - already a work of art showcasing the best of Georgian architecture - will host works from the best artists in our town and the whole of Cheshire.
It is all in the name fo East Cheshire Hospice, the Macclesfield good cause located on Millbank Drive.
Art Fair Cheshire is taking place from Thursday May 26 and Sunday June 5 at Macclesfield Town Hall.
Established in 1999, Art Fair Cheshire is a biennial art fair which showcases work by over 80 local and regional artists.
Each exhibiting artist donates a percentage from the sale of their work to East Cheshire Hospice, with some generously donating the full amount.
East Cheshire Hospice's Becky Sidwell said: "In addition to our fantastic exhibition, there will be a pop up café with amazing coffee and cakes, artist tours and talks, and for the first time, we will be hosting a gallery of newly graduated and emerging artists."
"We're keen to support local artists who might not have exhibited before and look forward to showcasing their work for you.
"The event is in partnership with Astra Zeneca Macclesfield and Little Greene Paint and Paper."
Macclesfield artists in attendance includes Prestbury urban sketcher David Steeden, and his textile art partner Margaret.
The event will be open from 10:00am to 5:00pm daily. This includes the Queen's Jubilee weekend, so it will make a great Bank Holiday day out.
Three galleries will be brimming with a wide variety of original artwork.
New this year is a gallery dedicated to emerging artists.
Karyn Johnston, Hospice Director has said," We are so grateful to everyone who has supported the Hospice, especially significant events like Art Fair Cheshire, which have such a massive impact on our fundraising."
"Every penny of funds raised goes to support the Art Therapy programme at East Cheshire Hospice which provides vital support to patients and their families during the most difficult times of their lives.
"Art plays a critical role at East Cheshire Hospice, helping patients come to terms with their diagnosis.
"Through art the Hospice's Art Psychotherapist, Fay, helps patients express their emotions through reflection, acknowledging and working through feelings of anxiety, loss of control, uncertainty, fear, confusion, anger, and sadness.
Art Fair Cheshire is totally run by volunteers some 150 in number. Over the last 20 years more than £350,000 has been raised to support patients and their families.
Each participating artist contributes at least 40% of their sales - if not all - to the Hospice and it is this combination of art and giving that has made Art Fair Cheshire such a success.
Georgie Johnson, AFC Co-Chair, "After a difficult few years for everyone, we hope that a combination of some wonderful art and a renewed ability to go to events will combine to help us raise even more money this year."
