Macclesfield FC are champions.

The Silkmen came from behind in front of a record crowd to claim a 2-1 win over Bamber Bridge.

With it, Robbie Savage's side booked their place in next season's National League North.

Cue the celebrations, with Macclesfield fans flooding on to the pitch at the final whistle.

It was an end-to-end start to the game, with both sides failing to capitalise on chances to take the lead.

Bamber Bridge came close to finding the opener 25 minutes in, Jack Baxter's strike from distance kept out by Max Dearnley, diving low to his left.

Half an hour gone and Elliott, who had largely been kept quiet, was able tap the ball across to Duffy, who was denied by the Bamber Bridge keeper, Charlie Casper.

Duffy had another chance moments later, his deflected long-range effort pushed out for a corner by Casper, with Macc failing to make anything of the set piece.

With less than ten minutes remaining of the half Bamber Bridge took the lead through their captain, Michael Potts, who made a point of celebrating in front of the Silkmen supporters.

Robbie Savage turned to the bench early in the second half, bringing Rollin Menayese on for Sean Etaluku, who had arguably been the Silkmen's liveliest player up to that point.

The change seemed to reenergise the hosts, with Laurent Mendy's stunning strike from around 25 yards out levelling the score on the hour mark.

Macclesfield continued to pile on the pressure, coming close several times before taking the lead through Elliott, who reacted quickly to claim his 29th of the season.

With his customary goal secured, Elliott made way for Diego De Girolamo and the game calmed down.

The Silkmen continued to push for a third that never came, with referee Ashley Royston blowing the whistle to rubber stamp what has been coming for months - Macclesfield FC are champions.
