An exciting short film project has launched, which is asking to film the great people of Macclesfield.

Macc Assemble Showreel Parade is a collective piece of art where everyone has a starring role.

Macc Assemble is in this year's Barnaby Bright parade. The parade will be virtual and take the form of a showreel filmed and arranged by arts collective IDST! which will be screened at St Michael's and All Angels Church in Market Place.

The showreel will feature community groups, individuals, clubs and families and it is an opportunity to show off a talent, idea or a favourite thing.

Everyone is invited to play their part and you will have just 20 seconds for the camera crew to capture your moment. It could be that you recite a poem, tell a joke, do a puppet show, dance, sing, make something to bring along.

If you are from Macclesfield, and have an idea for something to show on camera - this could be for you!

Filming sessions will take place over a number of days in Macclesfield. All sessions need to be pre-booked on Barnaby Festival's website.

Neil Puttick, from IDST! who are leading on Macc Assemble, says: "We're really excited about seeing what people do. Twenty seconds isn't long, but it's long enough to make your mark."

The Councillor for Macclesfield South added: "You can plan out your ideas and then bring anything that you need along to filming and our friendly crew will capture your moment. All those moments together will make quite an impact."

Macclesfield Nub News journalist Alexander Greensmith will be playing a small cameo role, in a 20 second clip.

Dr Abi Gilmore, Co-chair of Barnaby Festival, said: "The show reel will capture snapshots of the vibrant spirit of the individuals and communities in Macclesfield. We're really looking forward to seeing what Macclesfield has to offer in this collective masterpiece."

In order to provide some inspiration a series of virtual workshops will be hosted on the Barnaby Festival website.

They will include Sylk Dance Academy teaching you how to put together a routine and Sam Redway will be offering ways to use drama in your 20 seconds to make a scene. Macclesfield ArtSpace will be building carnival props.

The final film will be shown at St Michael and All Angels Church on Saturday June 19 and Saturday June 26 at 12pm.

Barnaby Bright is a collection of midsummer events that will take place this June around the summer solstice in the historic spaces of Macclesfield town centre, brought to you by the team at Barnaby Festival.

Barnaby Bright and all Barnaby Festival events will be delivered with measures in place to comply with COVID-19 restrictions. Social distancing will be monitored carefully.

Yesterday, we reported on a bursary and work placement scheme launched for young musicians, to be associated with the event.
