A chart-topping headliner has been announced for Macclesfield's newest festival.

The first-ever Macc in May takes place later this year, replacing the popular non-profit festival, Party in the Pews.

Despite being a sell-out the past two years, due to increased hire costs it was no longer viable to host the event at Christ Church.

Moving forward, the festival will be running under a new name, Macc in May, and at a new location, Market Place.

Best of all, it will now be free to attend.

First headliner revealed

Macc in May will run over two days, starting with nine hours of non-stop live music on Saturday, May 3.

Kyle Falconer, who rose to fame as the frontman of the Brit Award-nominated band, The View, has been announced as the first headliner.

The View are best known for hits such as Same Jeans, Superstar Tradesman and Shock Horror, with their debut album, Hats Off to the Buskers, briefly topping the UK Album Chart.

As a solo artist, Kyle has captivated audiences with heartfelt songwriting and electrifying performances.

Joining Kyle on the Saturday will be indie rockers Shader, funk and soul sensations Kiziah and the Kings, festival favourites WeatheredMan and the Noise, and new kid on the music scene Jonny Blade.

There will also be a selection of DJs making sure the music will be non-stop from 1pm to 10pm.

A second headliner is due to be announced in March.

The second day of the festival, May 4, will see classic films screened in the centre of Macclesfield along with a puppet version of Jaws and Back to the Future.

There will also be food trucks, plus RedWillow will once again be doing a festival IPA and Proper Sound will be taking over the Town Hall for a VIP bar.

Macc in May has been part funded by Macclesfield Town Council, with support from sponsors Kycker, Red Lantern Records, Grosvenor Shopping Centre and Reyt Good Magazine.

Further funding was raised through a Kick Starter campaign.
