A new coffee shop opens in Macclesfield on Friday.

7:30am will see the doors open to Coffee#1, filling in the old River Island building in Macclesfield town centre.

The Mill Street corner plot is one of the first coffee spots visitors will see when arriving by bus, and boasts over 80 seats inside and 40 outside.

Pronounced 'coffee one', the Caffe-Nero owned hot drink hub has wi-fi, plugs and a cosy atmosphere throughout.

It is dog friendly, and has extensive options for those with specific dietary requirements.

By sheer coincidence, one of their coffee blends is infused with treacle, serving as an accidental nod to Macclesfield's 'Treacletown' moniker. (Which of course, you will be able to enjoy at the Treacle Market this weekend.)

But what is no accident is the murals of Macclesfield history painted across the store.

The paintings help creative a community feel, and add to the grandiose vibe the decor brings.

Compared to some coffee chains, it is refreshing to see a bit of localness added to what is a national brand.

The store will be launching click and collect and delivery in the near future.

There is also a mini-shop of coffee-adjacent products, in addition to the food and drink you can enjoy at or outside the premises.

There's also a second entrance via Exchange Street, where the outdoor seating is, with a door that didn't exist in the building's previous incarnation before.

Coffee#1 Macclesfield will also help to support green-fingered Maxonians, by giving away used coffee grounds for gardeners to use in their compost.

Coffee#1 also supports the national charity Samaritans.

The 53 Mill Street site is opposite A-Plan Insurance. They take cash and card.

Store Manager Lexie, who lives just around the corner, is elated with the opening.

"We're delighted to be open in Macclesfield", said Lexie.

"My favourite part about the interior is the history of Macclesfield that we have drawn on the walls.

"All types of coffee drinkers are catered for, we've got oat and coconut milks as well. There's lots of non-meat options and bakes as well.

"We also keep our gluten-free cakes in a separate chamber.

"We have a 25p discount for bringing your own cup."

Customers visiting the coffee shop can relax with premium hand-crafted coffee and an enticing menu which includes breakfast, pastries, baps and paninis and an extensive range of cakes.

It will suit both grab-and-go coffee drinkers and those after a more relaxing time.

Some seats are even leather-bound, which add to an elegant-feel.

Coffee#1 Managing Director, Bruce Newman had this to say about the Macclesfield launch:

"We're delighted to be opening in Macclesfield," he said.

"It's a town which I believe will enjoy the warm welcoming and cosy atmosphere our coffee shops create.

"We firmly believe having a coffee is a reason to slow down and pause and benefit from a time out.

As well as a free drink promo code (see below) there is also a loyalty scheme. (Image - Alexander Greensmith / Macclesfield Nub News)

"We've designed our coffee shop with that in mind so there is more space and comfort.

"I think customers will really enjoy spending time with us.

"We're excited to join and be a part of our new community."

To celebrate the opening, the coffee shop is offering a free drink.

The app for the new coffee spot will also have monthly deals, which is currently a big discount of porridge, lower than the price advertised. (Image - Alexander Greensmith / Macclesfield Nub News)

Customers just have to enter the promo code 'MACCLESFIELD' into the promo code section of the Coffee#1 loyalty app to claim the free drink voucher.

It can be downloaded on Apple and Google app stores.

Established shortly after the turn of the millennium, Coffee#1 has over 100 stores nationwide.

They were bought out by Caffe Nero in 2019, but still run independently.

They also have nearby sites to Macclesfield in Buxton and Leek.

The new Macclesfield store is open from 7:30am to 6pm daily.

Coffee#1 is the first new coffee shop to open in Macclesfield since The Flower House.

It is the first new coffee place to open in Macclesfield this year.
