The new year has seen construction begin on a new bar, partially-owned by a Premier League star.

In October 2022, Cheshire East Council granted permission for two retail units to be converted into a bar and restaurant on Chestergate's east side.

Macclesfield Nub News revealed back in October 2021 that this application was in-part submitted by ex-Manchester United and current Leicester City defender Jonny Evans.

The site at 44-48 Chestergate has had scaffolding and workers building the new site for the whole of January, but further details remain tight-lipped.

It will serve customers Monday – Friday from 10.00 hrs to 23.00 hrs, Saturday 10.00 hrs to 23.00 hrs and Sunday 10.00 hrs to 23.00 hrs.

Even a name for the venue remains unknown. Reed more about the approved plans HERE and HERE.

After Chestergate's west side saw a trendy up-market bar open in 2022 with Suburban Green, it looks like 2023 will see the same for the other side of Chestergate.
