Macclesfield-based brewery, RedWillow has been named among the top food and drink producers globally this year, picking up a highly prized 3-star Great Taste award for New England IPA Perceptionless.

13,672 products were put through the competition's rigorous blind judging process at the world's most coveted food and drink awards. 3,938 products were awarded a Great Taste 1-star – 'food and drink that delivers fantastic flavour', 1,386 were awarded a Great Taste 2-star – 'above and beyond delicious', and 266 were awarded a Great Taste 3-star – 'extraordinarily tasty food and drink'.

Perceptionless, first released by the brewery back in 2016, was a big hit with the Great Taste judges, described as "A beautifully inviting hazy pale beer".

The judges went on to say: "This started strong and hopeful with seductive aromas of tropical fruits. We were thrilled when it didn't disappoint on the palate and punched above its weight with huge flavour complexity waltzing in perfect harmony. The balance of juiciness and bitterness is inspired."

Congratulations RedWillow!

The judges summarised it as: "A really well-balanced New England-style beer that does the style justice. Delicious."

Perceptionless was the beer with the highest ABV they received an award for, and coincidentally is also the highest-ranked award they received of the four.

Less than 2% of all the products entered this year received a 3-star great taste Award in 2024.

Divisionless, the brewery's first gluten-free, vegan lager, made with all British ingredients, and released only last year also received much praise from the judging panel, gaining a 2-star award. The judges said of the coeliac-friendly beer: "This lager has a clear, champagne-like appearance and a wine-like aroma. It is very easydrinking, with a lemon acidity to make your mouth water".

People with a gluten intolerance can enjoy this beer.

The judges found this to be "a very well-made lager, and one to quench the thirst… Light, bright, refreshing and crisp."

Weightless, RedWillow's bestselling Session IPA and Shameless their West Coast Style IPA, were both in the 40.8% of entries which receive the 1-star Great Taste award in 2024.

Toby Mckenzie, head brewer and founder of RedWillow Brewery comments: "We are thrilled to have won not just one, but four Great Taste awards in a range of styles which reflects the breadth of what we do as a brewery.

"From the 3-star accolade for Perceptionless, a long-standing favourite in our bars and amongst our customers, to the 2-star award for Divisionless one of our newest beers, we are so proud to be adding the prestigious, black and gold, Great Taste badge of honour to our cans."

Judged by the Guild of Fine Food's expert panel in the world's most trusted food and drink accreditation scheme: Perceptionless is awarded a Great Taste 3-star award, and Divisionless a 2-star award. The business will celebrate their 15th anniversary next year.

"To win one Great Taste award is a great achievement, but to be recognised with a Great Taste 3 star award means so much to independent producers such as ourselves," revealed Toby.

"It makes all the hard work and determination worth it! Great Taste is the most recognised accolade for taste & quality in the food and drink industry, so it's a huge moment for us!"

Judging for the whole awards took place over 92 days in Dorset and London, with a panel of more than 500 judges putting the products to the test. The line-up saw food and drink products submitted from an extraordinary 115 different countries across the world.
