It is the Bank Holiday weekend, so we caught up with a Macclesfield gas supplier to find out how he can help fire up the barbecue.

Gas expert Mark Le Moignan runs Macclesfield Bottled Gas on Chelford Road, near the traffic lights at Broken Cross.

He runs the shop along with Derek Burton. They are Macclesfield's largest supplier of propane and butane.

Cylinders come in different sizes, so can be bought for industrial or personal use.

"Our propane cylinders come with a 27mm valve for barbecues and patio headers, or screw-on threads for other appliances", said Mark.

"They go well with barbecues or patio heaters you can buy from B&Q.

"It is easy to use, put your regulator on, turn it, and it is one.

"We sell it in different sizes too. [See picture above]"

As well as gas, Macclesfield Bottled Gas also sells things like portable and patio heaters. (Image - Macclesfield Bottled Gas)

The 5kg patio gas propane, appropriate for barbecuing costs £35 if you have an empty can, or £79 if you don't.

"We also stock gas for space heaters, and outside caterers. We also sell butane for cabinet heaters, indoor heating, and also camping stove gas, which is popular in the summer."

Mark, who also runs paint shop Painters Supply Limited on the same site, has sold gas for 35 years.

How it works is, you buy the canister and the gas, and if you bring the empty back, you can swap it for a full one and just pay for the cost of the gas.

When asked why Macclesfield should buy their gas from him, Mark had this to say:

"Because you get a good supply," explained Mark.

"You can either come collect or have it delivered. We do deliver same day or next day, we try to keep on top on it. Some drops are done within 20 minutes, so you don't have to wait a week to get your gas.

"The past three or four years, we have got really big with gas. We are now the biggest gas supplier in Macclesfield.

"B&Q have bits, but nothing to match with the volume that I've got."

As S&M Supplies have retired, and Henshaws have took their foot of the gas, there are less and less local outlets you can purchase gas from.

But Mark has increased his stock accordingly, to make up for this local shortfall. Macclesfield Bottled Gas also sell things like wood for outdoor fires, heaters, and SodaStream gas capsules.

Their Bank Holiday opening hours are Saturday 9:30am to 3:30pm, closed Sunday and open Bank Holiday Monday 10-2pm.
