Fast food chain KFC have announced when they are coming to Macclesfield.

The fried chicken experts are opening in the Barracks Mill Retail Park later this year.

And the first date they will serve customers has been confirmed first to Macclesfield Nub News.

Local resident and new KFC Macclesfield Manager Sarah Wheeler revealed the news of the big date.

"We're delighted to be opening on Friday December 9", she said.

"The new Macclesfield KFC will open at 11am. We're hoping to have a celebrity come and open the new site on the day.

"I've worked as Manager in KFC Stockport for the last five years, as soon as I heard about one coming to Macclesfield, it was my mission to become Manager there.

"It is great to see everyone in Macclesfield so excited, we have customers in Stockport and Hazel Grove who travel from Macclesfield, and always ask when the Macclesfield one is opening.

"I can't go walking in Macclesfield town centre in my KFC outfit without being asked a question about when we are opening! It is amazing.

"I was leafletting in Hurdsfield the other day and the response was superb."

Sarah, who lives in Kerridge and has previously lived in Bollington, will lead a team of at least 40 staff members.

"I love working for KFC as every day is different but the same," she added.

"We have inclusion throughout all employees, and like to see our teams as a family.

"I like to make sure all my team members are given recognition, and also having fun.

"A lot of fast food places don't really have much fun, whereas we thrive on that. I am fair but firm.

"A lot of my Stockport staff want to come to Macclesfield [as they have enjoyed working with Sarah]. But we've decided to hire only people from Macclesfield, and its too far for them.

"It feels incredible to be managing the new KFC restaurant in my local community. It is also quite scary, there will be lots of people I know coming in!

"But that is also exciting as everyone who works here, as they will have their friends and family coming in as well to support them.

"We will be creating a minimum of 40 new jobs for Macclesfield. But to be fair, I would love to have 60 staff as we are going to be open seven days a week.

"We've filled in about 20 so far, so it is not too late to apply. We have both full and part time roles, with wages up to £10.80 an hour.

"We are looking for passionate people, who enjoy customer service, and want to make KFC the best place to eat in Macclesfield.

"And we're delighted to work with Macclesfield Nub News to help spread the word, I enjoy reading the stories on my Facebook every day.

"I believe KFC is the best fast food restaurant. It is proper chicken, fresh, we don't mess about it with it."

KFC Macclesfield's opening hours will be 11am to 10pm every day.

Colonel Harlan Sanders founded the restauraunt in 1952. The first UK restauraunt opened in Preston in 1965. The Colonel is still used as the mascot to this day. Here he is pictured in 1974. Anyone can apply to work for them. Their current staff range from teenagers to those in their sixties.

Sarah's work running the new eatery will be overseen by KFC Regional Area Coach Peter Moss, who is from Macclesfield, and KFC Area Coach Simon Thompson.

"We really do care about character development of our staff, we explained the progression at our recent jobs fair at Macclesfield Town Hall and it was received well," added Simon.

"It is a career we offer. Loads of people join us and stay. I think that is because of the culture.

"The new restaurant will have 56 seats. And we are a drive-to restaurant, not a drive-thru.

"We are really proud of the delivery service that we offer. Sarah's Stockport restaurant has the highest number of transactions in Manchester, so we are expecting the same in Macclesfield.

"You'll be able to order our food on Deliveroo, Just Eat and Uber Eats. We also have our own KFC Delivery platform as well.

"We're passionate about our food, and the quality of it whether it is enjoyed inside our restaurant or at home.

"We're also passionate about our people, it is hard work, but we look for [and reward] people with personality.

"We offer a variety of part time and full time roles, some could work just eight hours a week, other 45 plus.

"A lot of people join us think the chicken is frozen, but it is not. It is fresh piece of chicken that is breaded like when The Colonel [Sanders] first introduced it. They then share the same passion that we have for the food.

"I'm proud to bring KFC to Macclesfield. I know it will be fantastic for the community and great for jobs. It will be a revelation for fast food service in Macclesfield."

KFC's Christmas Gravy Bucket will be included within the new Macclesfield store's menu, among the national chain's regular favourites.

One shop inside the Barracks Mill Retail Park is already open, as Aldi opened in October. M&S Food will be opening ten days before KFC.
