A female artist from Macclesfield has had her work featured in a national exhibit.

Ginny McDermott is a Macclesfield based artist painting atmospheric landscapes and town scenes in oil and acrylic.

Her painting The Confidante, shows two women, both speaking with their body language, as the sole customers in a Macclesfield eatery.

The piece has caught eyes in the capital, and is currently featured in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.

"For many years it has been my ambition to have a painting accepted for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, even if I had to enter every year for the rest of my life," said Ginny.

"The Summer Exhibition is the oldest open submission exhibition - meaning anyone can enter - and has been running since 1769.

"The selection criteria and process are very rigorous, so I was absolutely thrilled to be accepted for this year's exhibition at the RA's Burlington House on Piccadilly, London.

"The theme this year is Only Connect and my painting in oils, The Confidante, of two ladies having a heart-to-heart in our local pub, The Snowgoose, obviously resonated with the judging panel. Not only was my work accepted, it also sold on one of the preview days, before the exhibition opened to the public!

"So, now I can say that I have exhibited (and sold), alongside the likes of Tracey Emin and Anthony Gormley."

The London-based exhibition featuring Ginny's work is on until August 20 2023.

If you would like to see Ginny's other work more locally, she exhibits through Northern Makes Gallery in Bollington's Clarence Mill and will have an exhibition with The Northern Girls Art Group from 3rd-5th November at the Clonterbroook Gallery.
