A Macclesfield bike shop has moved across town, in tandem with an endorsement from an international company.

PEAK cyclesport is now located where Virgin Money used to be on Market Place.

Fast-approaching their 20-year anniversary, the business was previously based at The Grosvenor Centre, and before that they had a unit on Wood Street.

Their new premises, of 15 Market Place, is not the only reason for the independent retailer to celebrate.

PEAK cyclesport have also been endorsed by esteemed German bike brand Riese and Muller,

This endorsement, which classes the Macclesfield shop as an 'experience centre', will mean that they'll recommend the Macclesfield business and the area to cyclists from around the world.

The shop is now spotlighted on the website of the bike manufacturer, and PEAK stocks their products in return, including new foldable and unfordable e-bikes.

Andy Bowers is the owner of PEAK cyclesport.

"The unit was offered to us midway through last year", he said.

"We are delighted to be in the iconic Market Place, opposite Macclesfield Town Hall, surrounded by cafes, it is a very nice environment to promote our new 'experience centre' status.

"So for customers who come quite a long way, they can have an experience where they can see Macclesfield at its finest.

"The wider perception over the years is that bike shops are very scary places, there are lots of techie and oily things going on. So we have made it more consumer-friendly.

"We have dropped some product lines that are too technical, and are presenting an environment that is very welcoming."

Andy would like this new era of his business to embrace their Macclesfield identity some more.

This is echoed by a gorgeous photographs of the town around the store. Soon to be joined by the work of local artists (get in touch if interested).

DOING GOOD: Andy's bike business has previously raised £15,000 for charity. (Image - Macclesfield Nub News)

But Andy wants to go deeper than that, and is keen to forge a relationship with more businesses. One of the ways he wishes to achieve this, is to make his new shop-floor a melting pot for like-minded businesses and event organisers.

If someone runs a similar business like a physiotherapist, cycling skills training, nutritionist, guided tours, or something similar, they are welcome to use his space to hold events and raise the volume about their own brand, at a prime spot in the town centre.

"Anybody who would like to use this space would be a great message to get out", he shared.

The new 'experience centre' status also means that you can have an accompanied test ride of their new electric bikes, so riders can get a real feel for the wheels.

Andy's company started from humble beginnings on Fence Avenue, then Wood Street, then The Grosvenor Centre. And has now culminated with this bright, big new unit right in the centre of Macc.

Considering the footfall - particularly at Treacle Market - for his new unit, even the most cynical about our town might consider Andy's move for an independent business to be quite impressive.

Andy is Macclesfield born-and-raised, but used to live in The Rockies, Colorado, USA, where he was a keen mountain biker.

From 2009 to 2015, he helped raise £15,000 for Macclesfield District and Lions Club, who distributed those funds to a countless amount of Macclesfield charities.

"I was born-and-bred in Macclesfield, moved to America but came back," he added.

"It is a great place to live, and we want to provide an authentic, welcoming place for people to buy outdoor products.

"Thank you to the community for their support over the years. We look forward to welcoming you."

PEAK cyclesport is open Tuesday to Friday 10am to 5:30pm, and Saturday sees them open from 9:30am to 5pm.
