Macclesfield: Potential flats at Macclesfield town centre building
A disused office block could become a home for at least 24 people.
Sovereign House, of 19 King Edward Street, SK10 1AF, is the latest Macclesfield town centre building to have an accommodation-based planning application.
The application is to determine if prior approval is required for a proposed Change of use from Commercial, Business and Service (Use Class E) to Dwelling houses (Use Class C3).
The exact details on the proposed flats have not been ironed out yet, this is to just double-check if the change of use can get the go ahead.
The application form is for "Conversion of floors 1, 2 and 3 of the existing vacant office space at Sovereign Court to provide 24 units."
The same planning document further claims "Access and parking will remain the same and number of daily trips reduced due to change in use class from office to residential."
We'll know by June if the plans can move onto the next stage.
Despite being next to the hustle and bustle of Market Place and Churchill Way, King Edward Street is one of the quietest streets in Macclesfield, with not many buildings actually in use.
