A Macclesfield primary school have co-launched a crowdfunder, in association with Sports for Champions UK.

Hurdsfield Primary School, of Hulley Road, will host an inspirational workshop with England international powerchair footballer Brad Bates, on July 1.

The pupils will benefit from physical activity through our fitness circuit, an inspirational talk including medal display and a Q&A session.

A fundraiser has been launched to aid both Brad's vital training, medical and competition costs, and to help sports at Hurdsfield Primary School.

Hurdsfield Community Primary School will benefit from the money raised as they will be able to provide new equipment, fund opportunities for the children, and more.

Headteacher Richard Jervis, spoke to Macclesfield Nub News.

"This is to launch our Hurdsfield Sports Week at school where we have different visitors showcasing sports to our pupils, and the grand finale is Sports Day on the Friday [July 5].

"This year's Sports Week will have an Olympic theme as we count down to the Paris 2024 Olympics this summer", he said.

Hurdsfield Community Primary School is promoting health and wellbeing throughout the school and with the help of a visit from Brad Bates, this will be enhanced across all year groups and staff, they are also focussing on encouraging diversity and raising the aspirations of the pupils through sport.

"At Hurdsfield Primary School, we are a 'No Outsiders' school, which means that we teach our pupils the Equality Act 2010 through different reading books and assemblies so that pupils understand what protected characteristics there are and at Hurdsfield it doesn't matter what age, gender, ethnicity, religion or if you have a disability or not - everyone is treated equally; everyone is welcome.

"It's important that role models such as Brad come into school to inspire our pupils to see our school values of resilience, reflection, challenge and encouragement demonstrated by real people. Brad is an example of someone showing determination and resilience, completing challenges and as a result has gained success.

"Thank you to any families that donate to this cause as it provides our school with monies that we can use to continue to revise and improve PE resources, whilst also making a difference to sports men and women who benefit from the funds raised - these could be our athletes representing Great Britain in the Olympics."
