A Macclesfield skatepark has been given a new lease of life after a local artist won the opportunity to design a new mural.

Dick Vincent is a local, Macclesfield based artist who was recently given a brilliant opportunity to design, and spray paint a mural across the public skatepark down on the Weston Estate.

Mr Vincent came across the opportunity on the Macclesfield Town Council website.

"I saw an application for it online and I just applied. I haven't really done much mural work before so I nearly didn't apply because I just thought someone else would get it, but my partner did kick me up the backside and told me to get the application done." Dick explained.

"I was really lucky with the Council; they kind of just gave me full artistic freedom.

"It was quite good because once I had got to the skatepark, there was things that I wouldn't have taken into consideration in my original sketches, like the graffiti tags that kids have done or the splats of paint and chips in the concrete that I could work into and work around with my mural."

The mural was said to have taken three days to complete and included one or two early morning starts in order to work around the challenge of the skatepark being a public space.

However, the challenge seemed to be nothing but fun for Mr Vincent, who grew up on the skatepark as his grandparents lived near.

"I definitely would do more projects like this in the future," he added.

"I absolutely loved it."

"In fact, a project like this was something I have always wanted to get involved with, but it is hard to start getting a portfolio of this kind of work together, unless it is done illegally which is obviously not ideal." Dick joked.

The mural itself seems to be already gathering some fans and admirers.

"Some of the local kids that use the skatepark came over to me as I was painting it and they seemed to enjoy the work I was doing.

"Skaters are pretty nonchalant about anything so some of them did come past and said it was 'quite good' which is probably the best I am going to get from them." Dick went onto explain
