Macclesfield's MP has welcomed the government's decision to reject Adlington as a potential new town.

A list of seven proposed new towns has been announced by the government, with Adlington not amongst them.

It marks a 'significant victory' for campaigners, who have protested consistently since the initial shortlist was revealed last September.

Joining in the celebrations is Tim Roca, MP for the Macclesfield constituency.

He said: "This is a hugely important victory for our community and a testament to what can be achieved through determined, focused campaigning.

"From day one, I have been clear that Adlington was not a suitable site for this development, and I have worked tirelessly to ensure that message was heard at the highest levels of Government.

"Today's decision reflects the strength of the case I have consistently put forward on behalf of local residents."

Mr Roca supported the work of local residents and farmers to stop the Adlington new town plans.

This included launching a parliamentary petition signed by nearly 19,000 people, speaking out in Parliamment, directly lobbying the government and coordinating with local stakeholders.

Mr Roca also engaged with local groups such as the Stop Adlington New Town campaign, parish councils, and environmental organisations, ensuring their concerns were clearly represented in government discussions.

"While this has been a collective effort, I have made it my priority to lead a constructive, evidence-based campaign that could deliver real results," he added.

"We all recognise the need for new homes, but they must be built in the right places, with the right infrastructure, and with the support of local communities.

"I will always stand up for our area and ensure that our communities are heard. This result shows that when we make a strong case and remain focused, we can deliver."
