Macclesfield's MP has taken action to block plans for a new town in Adlington.
Tim Roca has today (October 22) launched a formal Parliamentary Petition calling on the Government to abandon plans for a proposed new town at Adlington, Cheshire.
The petition, which will be presented in the House of Commons, urges ministers to reject the New Towns Taskforce's identification of Adlington as a potential site for large-scale development.
Mr Roca said: "This is no ordinary petition. It will be presented in parliament itself, at the heart of government.
"Adlington is a cherished part of our local community, and we must do everything we can to protect its character and surrounding green belt."

Currently, Adlington has a population of around 1,250.
The proposal, if pursued, could see the construction of at least 14,000 new homes.
This has sparked concern among residents and local campaigners, who fear that such a development would cause significant, large-scale and irreversible harm to the green belt on the edge of the Peak District National Park.
Furthermore, it is felt such proposals would place 'immense pressure' on local roads, schools, and health services.
Mr Roca added: "Cheshire East Council has met its housing targets in the past and can do so again through a democratically agreed Local Plan that ensures homes are built in the right places, with the right infrastructure.
"Many constituents have told me they understand the need for more homes for local families, but they're clear that development must happen in the right places, and I fully agree.
"We have many brownfield sites and vacant buildings in our town centres that should be prioritised for development before considering new green belt land.
"I want to thank the hundreds of constituents who have already contacted me to share their views. Now we need to come together as a community and make sure every voice is heard."
