Macclesfield's new MP has resigned from his other elected position of power.

Tim Roca MP, who was elected as Macclesfield's first-ever Labour MP in July, has resigned from Westminster City Council.

It appears Mr Roca is shifting his focus to his new role, following his election with 46.7% share of the vote.

Mr Roca was contacted for comment by Macclesfield Nub News on August 23.

In May 2024, when interviewed by Macclesfield Nub News, Mr Roca said "I am in the process of submitting my resignation."

Just minutes after he was elected in July 2024, Macclesfield Nub News asked for an update on this resignation status, to which he said: "That will be something that will be imminent. I have got to discuss it."

Since he was elected as Macclesfield's first non-Conservative MP since 1918, Westminster Conservatives had called for Mr Roca to step down on two separate occasions.

Now, the deed is done, and a by-election has been triggered in the Harrow Road ward at Westminster City Council.

Mr Roca had represented Harrow Road at Westminster City Council since July 2015, and was leader of the Council until January 2024 (two months after he was selected as the general election candidate for Macclesfield Constituency Labour Party.

His resignation was announced by Westminster City Council on August 9.

Westminster City Council added in a statement "We can confirm Cllr Roca has resigned and we have a by-election on September 19 for the Harrow Road ward."

Westminster Labour had praised Tim for 'expanding access to free school meals' and tackling the cost of living crisis.
