Labour's Tim Roca is Macclesfield's next MP - as constituency turns red for the first-time ever

The Labour Party has won the general election in Macclesfield.

Tim Roca is Macclesfield's next MP, and the first time the constituency has elected a Labour MP.

The results were declared at Macclesfield Leisure Centre, where the count took place.

Tim had previously stood for parliament in Macclesfield in 2015.

David Rutley, the Conservative candidate had won the past four general elections in Macclesfield.

However, the Conservative could not make it fifth time lucky, as Mr Rutley finished second with 15,552 votes.

It wasn't until 5:30am when the votes were revealed.

A record seven candidates stood in the Macclesfield constituency.

It means Macclesfield has a non-Conservative and Unionist MP for the first time since 1914.

In third place was Reform UK, reflecting their strong performance nationally, scoring 12.48 per cent of votes.

They are the only other party to get their deposit back.

Stephen Broadhurst was the only candidate who was not on stage for the result declaration.

Amanda Iremonger finished in fourth place for the Green Party, with 4.72 per cent.

The Liberal Democrats finished a close fifth with 4.70 per cent of votes.

Independent candidate Christopher Wellavize finished sixth with 1.47 per cent of votes.

Dickie Fletcher of the Social Democratic Party took seventh place, with 0.42 per cent of votes.
