A new HD CCTV camera is wanted on Castle Street.

An application for a single CCTV unit outside HSBC in Macclesfield has been submitted to the Cheshire East Council planning website.

The firm Axis Architecture, speaking on a document for the worldwide bank stated "The bank is currently planning to improve the level of security at this branch. Therefore, it is proposed to install one new CCTV camera as a deterrent to anti-social behaviour, as well as aiding in detection and prosecution."

This new device would imply that HSBC is here to stay. A welcome relief for customers, especially considering two banks left the high street in Macclesfield last year (Virgin Money and RBS). And the fact that HSBC are shutting over 100 sites in 2023, including in nearby Knutsford.

A final decision on the new camera will be made by next month.
