Macclesfield: New independent clothes shop KIT opens on Chestergate
There is a new clothes shop in town, and it is full of character.
KIT is the new venture by Georgia Taylor-Wheeler.
The small but mighty fashion shop is located on Chestergate's west side, where Loola Loves used to be (Loola Loves has moved down the road).
Macclesfield Nub News went down to the new shop, to find out more.
"The concept is to be between a midpoint of a charity shop and a vintage shop," said Georgia.
"I went to New York two years ago, which has basically that. It is not donations, but not people selling things for crazy prices.
"These sort of shops have really regularly changing stock, and basically want people to feel they are in a curated shop. That is what KIT is.
"I know a lot of people don't like or have the time to trawl through charity shops to find pre-loved and vintage pieces, especially with the way that charity shop opening hours are they are just not accessible to everybody.
"So I wanted to create a place where all the hard work is done for you [curating the good clothes together], with flexible opening hours.
"I wanted to create a space in Macclesfield where you could do that.
"I particularly like this unit because it is full of independent shops, and the community feel amongst everyone is amazing. I have felt so welcome.
"And in terms of the customer base, people come on this road with the mindset of shopping at charity shops, so it is a perfect fit."
The stock ranges from Georgia's own personal collection, flea markets, charity shops and online.
"Since I was 13, I have been going into charity and vintage shops.
"Also on a more personal level, I feel like fast-fashion is the worst thing in the world.
"The idea of something going into landfill when it still has life to give, it just breaks my heart.
"If I can give these clothes a platform, another use, that is my vision."
Georgia went to sixth form in Macclesfield, and returned to the area to live with her partner.
"When I was in sixth form, Macclesfield didn't have the vibe it has now."
The shop sells a small but curated section of clothing, including accessories like belts and handbags.
KIT is located on 67 Chestergate, Macclesfield, SK11 6DG. But KIT is also on Depop.
"I have always wanted to open a shop, and have a Depop to complement it," revealed Georgia.
"The fun of thrifting is having a dig in person, browsing and going through stuff. Online you don't get that experience."
KIT is open Wednesday to Sunday. Wednesday to Saturday is 10:30am to 4:30pm, and Sunday is 11am to 2pm.
On Treacle Sunday, Georgia will slightly extend opening hours from 10am to 3pm.
