Cheshire East Council has put the green light towards plans to expand a Macclesfield nursery.

Footprints Day Nursery, situated in-between a physiotherapist and a dentist orthodontist, is a long-running children's early years education centre of 154 Cumberland Street.

The nursery, previously awarded 'Outstanding' by Ofsted, has been operating in Macclesfield since 2002.

Before that, the site was St. Bride's Prepatory School.

In April, Footprints applied to Cheshire East Council for planning permission for a "proposed extension and alterations to existing nursery with an increase in capacity to 97 places."

Their Macclesfield site currently accommodates 69 children on site per day and 19.73 full-time employees.

But both these figures can now expand, thanks to Cheshire East Council's thumbs up of the plans.

The extension will be on the first floor, and internal floor spaces will increase from 346.17sqm to 499.91sqm, resulting in an additional 135.74sqm.

11 more full-time employees can now be hired, according to a planning document.

Two objections were raised, over the impact Footprints' growth would have on the 'chaotic traffic' of Cumberland Street and noise.

Concerns were also brought up over trees and nature, as well as claims that parents of kids who attend here use residential parking spaces.

Macclesfield Nub News has reached out to the nursery for comment.

Work can now commence on the building which is over 100 years old.

Footprints also operate in Bollington.
