A pilates expert from Macclesfield is celebrating a decade in business.
Shivaun Rackham, who has lived in Macclesfield for over 25 years, has just celebrated her ten year anniversary as owner of Macclesfield Physio Pilates.
"It feels fantastic. When you start a business you often don't know what to expect so to reach a ten year milestone is very exciting." Shivaun explained.
Shivaun qualified as a Physio in 1994 and became a fully-certified matwork Pilates Instructor in October 2011.
She began using Pilates as a tool to help aid her patients within the NHS to manage their musculoskeletal problems and saw how others could benefit from it.
She begins by seeing people individually for an initial assessment and introduction at a local physio clinic. Shivaun then gets a good understanding of the client and introduces the basics of pilates. The decision is made whether to continue with one to one treatment or pilates or to join a pilates class.
"This is really useful if people are wary of joining as it enables us to discuss the reasons and assess them, as most moves can be adapted to suit anyone."
Many venues host her classes such as Prestbury Village Hall and Over Alderley and Birtles Village Hall.
"My favourite part of my job is how empowering it is," Shivaun explained,
"I love when people attend sessions, but ultimately when they come back to me and say an exercise really helped them it shows me what I'm doing really works."
Shivaun's favourite thing about Macclesfield is how close it is to the Peak District and how great it is for music and the arts.
"Macclesfield has such an artistic and musical element to it, Barnaby Festival is just fantastic," she said.
In the future, Shivaun would like to expand her business and increase people's knowledge about the benefits of Pilates and how it can be adjusted to anyone's needs.
In order to book an initial session with Shivaun please phone 07944 755401.
