Macclesfield: Pub crawl to encourage supporting local businesses in cost of living crisis
An event to support our town's small hospitality venues has been announced.
Macclesfield Facebook circles has had business after business being candid with customers about the rising cost of energy.
The cost of living crisis is affecting us all, but an organised event to support some of our town's indie pubs and bars will hope to bring people together as well as helping small businesses out.
On Saturday June 3, the inaugural 'Tour de Macclesfield' will take place. Anyone's welcome to meet new people, try new venues, drink or food.
It will see 19 town centre venues visited across at least 13 hours, frequented by guests keen to support local publicans, with anyone invited.
Macclesfield DJ Jacqueline Francesca came up with the idea, as she has seen through the venues she works at the impact these tough times are having on our town.
"Macclesfield is becoming more of a ghost town every single week. We need to support our local pubs and bars as much as possible," she said.
"So everyone is invited to our pub crawl from 12pm on Saturday June 3."
"This is also a great opportunity to venture somewhere new."
The date was chosen as it is FA Cup Final day, so many venues will be showing the match and the build-up to it.
The schedule for the event is as follows:
Ivy Leaf - 12PM
The Weaver
Flower Pot
Park Tavern
The Snowgoose
Old Millstone (FA Cup Final Kick-Off) - 3PM
The Earl of Mercia
The Bate Hall
The Swan With Two Necks
5 Clouds
G&T Bar
Porters Prince of Wales
The Shamrock Bar
White Lion
Melrose Ave.
DUKEBOX
Aspens Bar
NO. 8 DUKES 11.45PM
While the final venue is open until 3am, the last pit stop for the event is at quarter-to-midnight.
"The arrival times are a guide so please don't feel like you have to rush," added Jacqueline.
"Please drink responsibly, and come support our town's local economy."
And many of the venues serve food as well, which means this event has something for everyone.
There's no commitment and you can leave or arrive when you want. Furthermore, it is not a ticketed event.
If the event is a success, it could become a regular thing.
At least 225 people have registered their interest in coming thus far.
