Macclesfield: 'SAVE DANES MOSS' turn to coffee mornings to aid campaign
A campaign to prevent housing being built on peatlands in South Macclesfield will host their first coffee morning this week.
The 'SAVE DANES MOSS' campaign want to prevent Cheshire East Council from building homes just feet away from the Danes Moss Nature Reserve.
950 homes and a link road are planned on the land in-part owned by Cheshire East Council.
The site is thought to contain over 220,000 cubic tonnes of peat, which is a natural carbon sink, and would be released as CO2 into the atmosphere should construction works go ahead.
As a result, the grassroots campaign are trying to fundraise £70,000 to mount a legal challenge.
To help get them to their goal, a coffee morning will be held at a venue close to the site.
The event will take place this Thursday January 12 between 10am to 12pm, at Gawsworth Methodist Church.
There will be raffle prizes to be won, as well as a bake sale going on.
