In a rush? Don't have hours to sift through Census data?

Macclesfield: Here's ten key takeaways from the latest batch of UK census data

  1. 91.7% of people in Cheshire East were born in the UK, down from 94.9% in 2011. The latest data suggests 3.9% of people in not born in the UK arriving Cheshire East arriving in the UK between 2011 and 2021.
  2. After the Brits, the top two nations represented in Cheshire East are Polish-born residents who make up 1.4% of Cheshire East, meanwhile Indian-born Census-takers make up 0.5% of the total population of Cheshire East. These two were also the most prevalent non-UK nationalities in 2011. (Please note this data will not include Ukrainians which moved here in 2022, from 11 months after the census was taken).
  3. Macclesfield South and Lyme Green has the most young people in Macclesfield. The median age there is 39, three years below the national average. Prestbury and Adlington meanwhile has one of the oldest median ages in the UK at 55.
  4. 30.4% of households in Cheshire East have just one person living in them, 37.1% have two, 15.5% have three, and 17.0% have four or more. Unsurprisingly given it is filled with flats, Macclesfield Central has the most local single-resident addresses, at 43.1%.
  5. 4.24% of Cheshire East households list their main language as something other than English, up 1.24% from 2011's 3.0% figure.
  6. Less than a quarter of Macclesfield South and Lyme Green residents own their home outright (22.4%). This is the second-lowest prevalence of ownership in Cheshire East, beat by only Crewe Town and Victoria Avenue)
  7. 0.4% of households in Cheshire East have renewable central heating, using things like heat pumps or solar water heating systems. This figure is low for the national average, but high for the north west. However, with the climate crisis more omnipresent than ever, expect this figure to rise for Census 2031.
  8. One in four residents in Central Macclesfield don't own a car. It is the same for Macclesfield South and Lyme Green.
  9. Macclesfield Weston residents are the most settled in Cheshire East. They are the most likely to be living in the same address they were living in a year before the Census on March 21 2021, at 92.7%, meaning they have the least migration.
  10. Cheshire East is above the national average for homes with four or more bedrooms at 29%. That is almost one in every three homes. You'll most likely find a big house of this criteria locally in Macclesfield Tytherington (50.5%) and Prestbury and Adlington (58.3%).
