Macclesfield: The Rossendale Trust will have six runners in next month's London Marathon
Runners are gearing up for the 2024 London Marathon, with multiple people doing the 26.2-mile course for a Sutton good cause.
The Rossendale Trust, of Hollin Lane, will have a a whopping six people taking part in April's London Marathon, in what has been described as "A Marathon of Commitment for the Rossendale Trust."
As spring begins, local charity The Rossendale Trust is thrilled to announce their support for a dynamic team of six dedicated runners participating in this year's iconic London Marathon.
Taking place this time next month on April 21, The Rossendale Trust, who help the local physical and learning difficulty disability community thrive, could have thousands of pounds raised for them by the group of amateur athletes.
The runners are not only set to leave an indelible mark on the marathon route but are also committed to making a lasting impact on the charity and the individuals that it supports.
The London Marathon team is a testament to resilience, led by the remarkable Toby, a seasoned marathon veteran participating for an astonishing 21st time in London.
Joining him on the starting line are Martin, Fran, Vicky, Alison, and David. (Pictured below.)
Notably, this year adds a special family representation, with sisters Vicky & Alison running alongside husband and brother-in-law David.
Sue Heaven, Head of PR and Fundraising, expressed the Trust's delight in supporting such a stellar team of fundraisers, stating, "Securing a place in the London Marathon is a challenge in itself so to have six individuals taking part and raising funds for the Trust this year, makes us incredibly proud."
"The journey to London demands true dedication, with runners completing lengthy training runs in the dark winter days. The race to achieving their fundraising targets is equally demanding, and we are immensely grateful for the time and effort our runners invest in this event. The funds they raise truly make a significant difference, enabling us to provide much needed support and services for adults with learning disabilities in our local area."
Marathon veteran Toby offered sage advice to the team, explaining "My advice for anyone thinking of running a marathon for charity, especially London, is to finish, take it steady, run with pride, stay hydrated, and, most importantly, remember why you're doing it when you hit the tough times along the way. Running the final yards up the Mall is a lifetime achievement and an awesome feeling."
Fran, a first-time London Marathon participant, shared her tactics for the run, stating, "I'm hoping just to finish in a not too embarrassing time and have some fun while I'm doing it." Her positive approach mirrors the spirit of the entire team, collectively aiming to make a positive impact on the lives of those who rely on the support and services provided by the Rossendale Trust.
The runners have already raised an impressive £10,000 for the Trust and are urging friends, family, and the broader community to continue contributing to their fundraising efforts. Demonstrating creativity, the runners have engaged in local fairs, organised bingo nights, and even raffled memorabilia generously donated by therenowned rock band The Chameleons.
