Treacle Town's biggest original music festival has a new name.

Macclesfield in May will return next year as No Ordinary Weekend, organisers have confirmed.

Jo Lowes from Choose Macc explained that date clashes meant the event would not be able to take place in May next year.

As such, it has been moved to the weekend of July 9 and 10 as a 'two day extravaganza' under a new name.

"The name No Ordinary Weekend came from the event being something genuinely different," Jo said.

"The festival is a huge amount of work and has quickly become Macc's biggest original music event which is something that me and the rest of the volunteers are incredibly proud of.

"Plus the fact we are able to make the festival for free for everyone to attend and keeping it completely non-profit means it can have an even bigger positive impact on the local community.

"Looking at the amazing summer of events already being held around Macclesfield, the second weekend in July was the most appropriate and it means we can start the summer in style by bringing amazing music back to the centre of Macc!"

Due to Covid restrictions in 2021, the very first Macc in May actually ended up become Macclesfield in October.

Held at Christ Church, it was renamed Party in the Pews for 2022.

However, the event was then forced to leave the venue after increased hire costs made it no longer financially viable to remain there.

Jo said: "I was determined to make the festival work and with the support of Macclesfield Town Council, sponsors and traders, I managed to relaunch the festival in Market Place, making it free for everyone to attend.

"While the venue changed, the aim didn't - to bring national touring artists to the centre of Macclesfield and to provide a large platform for local artists.

"I wanted a varied line up which also showcased culturally diverse and underrepresented artists and do feel that what the festival has achieved.

"Moving forward the festival would have always needed to leave Christ Church due to its limited capacity so this proved to be a brilliant step forward."

The first lineup announcements are expected in September.
