The man who put Macclesfield on the map for seafood is to open his own restaurant in the town.

Jamie Savage, who has cooked mussels from two venues in Macclesfield, is to open his own on Church Street.

The mussel chef will open SAVAGES MUSSELS BAR in what used to be The Salt Bar, before it shut last weekend.

No opening date has been revealed or any further details as of yet, but rest assured you can enjoy some delicious mussels cooked in a variety of ways.

Speaking on social media, SAVAGES Founder Jamie, who lives in Macclesfield said: "What a rollercoaster the past few years have been!"

"It's been brutally hard for every independent business and hats off to everyone.

"If you haven't already heard the sad news that The Salt Bar has closed, here I am to tell you, it's such a shame and Jo did an absolutely outstanding job of running a beautiful, small independent restaurant in our good town of Macclesfield.

"With Jo leaving, she has also given me the most amazing opportunity to move into this great building, look after it and open SAVAGES MUSSELS BAR to pursue my dream of having my own restaurant and bar.

"With this, this is my last week serving at Red Willow Macclesfield, where I have also had a great time, Sunday will be closing day.

"I have no date for opening SAVAGES MUSSELS BAR as of yet, but it won't be too far away.

"Wish us luck while we do a bit of painting and thank you for your continued support, you've kept us going!

"Hopefully see you soon at the new place."

Before he started his own venue, Jamie has spent the past year cooking as the guest chef at Red Willow's bar on Park Green.

Before that, he spent three years at The Picturedrome on Chestergate, as one of the founding food vendors.

Dishes he serves includes popcorn mussels and moules marinière. He even used to sell a beer made from mussels.
