Marks and Spencer Macclesfield Closure: Mill Street building to become 'mixed use'

The future of Macclesfield's high street hangs in the balance, as a London and Macclesfield property firm are promoting 33 Mill Street to potential tenants.

While M&S will be one of seven developments coming to Barracks Mill, it will be a food-only option and see the Marks and Spencer store of 33 Mill Street close.

However, Colliers and Hallams Property Consultants have compiled a brochure about the building, marketing the site as a 'mixed use' site called 'The Hub'.

The five-storey building could be rented out by different parties, and could be used for more than just retail, if a company would apply for a change of licence.

The let-in-parts building is almost 56,000 square foot according to Churchill Chambers company. The entrance on Exchange Close is likely to remain as well, as was mentioned in their document.

Colliers - a London property business are also promoting the building to investors.

The two companies have earmarked retail and leisure space for the ground floor, offices on the second floor, along with a third floor rife with potential.

It is not yet known if any parties are interested in the building in the heart of Macclesfield.

While no plans have been submitted to Cheshire East Council yet, you may expect it to come before autumn, when Marks & Spencer closes.

However, plans have been submitted by a separate party for outside of the building.

In December, documents were submitted for a 5G mast to be erected on top of the 33 Mill Street building.

They were initially refused in January, but are likely to be submitted again.

Interested parties can contact either Colliers or Hallams, the latter of which are Macc based and can be called on 01625 262222.
