A Macclesfield-born DJ has received her first full-time job as a radio presenter.

Numi Gilbert (27) grew up listening to Silk FM and will now get to inspire the next generation of radio presenters with her new show 'The Hits List' on Kent-based station KMFM.

"The Hit List is the home of the newest music, first plays of songs, multi-platform content and interviews with artists. It's a great place to discover brand new music.†Numi stated.

Numi worked part-time at BBC Radio 1 throughout 2021, being on air for total of 27 hours, and is now thrilled with the new full-time opportunity she has received.

Numi had presented on the station part-time since April, and is now a full-time presenter.

"I think it took a moment to sink in. "But I definitely jumped around and then had a little cry," she said.

"I feel incredibly blessed to be given this opportunity to be able to pursue my passion full time. I'm just so excited to get started.

"I'm really excited about playing with the multiplatform element of the show and creating content on air that can be shared on our TikTok and YouTube.

"I have loads of ideas up my sleeve for games to play with artists to get them involved in the fun too."

The King's School alumni came back too Macc for the festive season to celebrate the good news with her loved ones.

KMFM's newest radio presenter moved to Macclesfield when she was two years old and lived here for 14 years. Her parents, who still live in Prestbury, are said to be Numi's biggest fans.

Their reaction to the news was a special moment for Numi, who now lives in London.

"I sent them a picture of me with my thumbs up and the caption 'who has two thumbs and just got a job in radio?' Very cheesy," she added.

"They were so happy for me. They have supported me every step of the way and have always listened to my shows, even when they've been at four in the morning!

Numi has left her job as a consultant to take the next step in our radio career.

"I'm very lucky to have their love and support behind me."

The new full-time job has not stopped Numi from completing her PHD studies whatsoever, and first few months of 2022 will be very busy indeed.

"I will still be doing the Kent Top 40 with Alex West every Sunday and of course there's prep for every show so it ends up being an eight-hour working day.

"For the first few months I want to focus and put my all in settling into the show and making it sound the best it can. I also will be spending the next few months finishing my PhD corrections.

"Additionally, I am very much looking forward to having a two-day weekend back as six days a week for the past eight months has been quite tough."

Macclesfield Nub News wishes Numi well for the future, and will keep a keen ear out for future news.
