A Macclesfield woman has realised her ambition to open her own salon in Macclesfield town centre.
Hayley Marshall has opened up Hair Court by Hayley on Pickford Street, taking the place of a Thai massage business.
Hayley's hairdressers offers an intimate, homely, atmosphere, at affordable prices.
Macclesfield Nub News went to the new salon to find out more.
"I love being a hairdresser as is making people feel good about themselves," said Hayley.
"I help people with their confidence. A lot of clients come in nervous, but they feel great after."
Hayley is a one woman salon, being the sole employee of her new salon. A fact which, has its benefits for both business owner and customer.
"I think people like that it is only me, so there is not a big crowd, it is not intimidating, a lot of people like coming to a salon where there's just one person," told Hayley.
"And the benefits to the customer mean, I can have keep the standard of service high as it is just me."
Hayley specialises Brazilian blowouts, which is a hair treatment that eliminates frizz and is suitable for any hair type. It is a process Hayley finds fascinating.
"No matter how often I do them, I am still wowed by the result," said Hayley.
"I will never get bored of them!"
As a hairdresser, Hayley is up for a chat, but is also a great listener. So for people that like to let go of the outside world, or talk through what is going on in their lives, Hayley is here to listen.
Hayley trained her craft at Wilsons hairdressers in Macclesfield. The former Henbury High Pupil started sweeping up hair at age 15, and has been in the hairdressing industry ever since.
She recently rented a chair at Isona on Chestergate, but her expertise and high quality of service has now culminated in having a space of her own. And she has been quick to add personal touches around the salon.
"I have three kids and I have made a little room for them in the back", explained Hayley.
"But it is not just for them. A lot of clients bring their kids with them, so they can use the kids room too, and have a play or do a bit of drawing on a beanbag their while parent gets their hair done.
"We also have another room that I would like to rent out to someone, such as a tattoo artist."
And it is not just their opening to celebrate, as Hayley has been nominated for an award.
Hayley has been nominated for Hair Stylist of the Year in the Official UK Hair and Beauty Awards.
She will find out if she has within weeks, as the awards ceremony will be held in Birmingham on June 1.
Furthermore, she has been nominated in the Best New Salon category.
And she isn't even the only Macclesfield business to be attending said awards.
Hayley cites Sonia at west Chestergate salon Isona as a personal inspiration.
She wanted to take this opportunity of the Nub News platform to thank Sonia for helping her get to where she is today.
When pressed about advice she may give to her industry colleagues, and other independent business owners, Hayley had this to say:
"Get your clientele first, before you open somewhere," Hayley replied.
"If it wasn't for them, I couldn't do it. I would like to say a massive thank you to them for supporting a small business.
"When you pay me, you pay for my children to have nice things. I want to stay here for as long as I can."
Hayley has previously took on pupils from Macclesfield's The Fermain Academy on work experience.
It is something she is open to in the future, especially now she has her own salon.
"I would rather give a kid who doesn't like school, an opportunity to do something," she recalled.
"I paid one girl a few years ago."
Her chosen charity to support is East Cheshire Hospice.
Hayley also offers a 10% Blue Light discount for NHS workers, as another way of helping out in the community.
Additionally, to help out in the cost of living crisis, Hayley has opted to keep her prizes now.
"I've done this because everything is so expensive at the moment, but I don't need to charge that much because it is just me [that works here]," shared Hayley.
"I will only up them, unless I really, really have to. I would rather have a volume of clients, and be really busy."
A ladies wash and blow dry ranges from £21 to £27, with a haircut it is £39. A mens colour costs £20, and gents cut and finish is £22.
