Parents have been disappointed in King's School Macclesfield's decision to remove the teaching of the ancient Roman language, Latin.
Last month, an anonymous source started a petition to bring back the classical language at the school.
The petition explained why they feel it is essential to be continued to be taught.
"This decision not only limits students' exposure to a significant part of our global history," the anonymous source said.
"But also hinders their ability to understand the roots of many modern languages.
"We believe that reinstating Latin in the curriculum will provide students with more comprehensive education.
"And better prepare them for future academic pursuits."
Kings School Macclesfield were also directly contacted regarding the decision. And this week, they had this to say to Macclesfield Nub News.
"The school has taken the decision to remove the teaching of Latin from the curriculum from September 2025 onwards," said a King's School Macclesfield spokesperson.
"This is in response to changing demands within our curriculum and the continued low numbers of pupils choosing to study Latin.
"This decision has not been taken lightly or without careful consideration of what our curriculum offer should be.
"We recognise that some pupils will be disappointed that they will be unable to take Latin as a GCSE option in the future."
At the time of writing the petition currently has 105 signatures with many parents in support.
The petition can be found on Change.org website, and their next goal is to get 200 signatures.
