A pregnant sheep has been killed by a dog.

Cheshire Police's Rural Crime Team are investigating a fatal attack in Pott Shrigley.

It is suspected that sometime between 5.30am and 10.30am on Tuesday (April 15) a dog attacked a sheep who was pregnant with two lambs.

PC Rob Stordy described the injuries as 'horrendous and ultimately fatal'.

He added: "These incidents obviously cause huge amounts of totally unnecessary pain and suffering to the livestock but also have a huge impact on the livestock owners."

The attack came on the first day of the force's Operation RECALL Awareness Week.

The sheep was found on land off Spuley Lane, close to Harrop Wood and the Gritstone Trail.

It is understood there are only a couple of routes in and out of this location.

"If you saw a dog - potentially covered in blood, we would be keen to hear from you!" said PC Stordy.

If you have information, contacting Cheshire Police via 101 quoting crime reference 25000308439.
