£1.4 million Mill House Bridge repairs finally complete

The £1.5 million repair of Mill House Bridge is finally finished.
Cheshire East Council has confirmed that the repairs to bridge along the A523 London Road are now officially complete, as of Tuesday, March 17.
It comes 22 months after a flash food resulted in 'extensive' damage, causing part of the bridge's arch structure to collapse.
An update shared by council reads: "Repair works on Mill House Bridge are now complete.
"Our teams have successfully stitched back the bridge arch and strengthened the foundations, ensuring the structure remains safe and resilient for years to come.
"Activity will continue on site over the coming days, as we remove the temporary river diversion, temporary river crossing and carry out the final site clearance.
"Thank you for your patience and cooperation throughout these essential works."

In February, a Freedom of Information request revealed the total cost of the repairs to be £1,415,025.62.
Much of the work was carried out below the bridge and out of sight of the public, the council say.
This includes the damming and diversion of the river, joining the new part of the bridge to the existing structure, reinforcing the surrounding north-south retaining wall, underpinning and increasing the size of the bridge's foundation and stabilising the ground.
For motorists at least, the most disruptive aspect of the works were the temporary traffic lights.
These were in place for 582 days, from May 17, 2024, to December 19, 2025.
This cost the council £52,825.06, the FOI submitted by local resident Keith Nixon has revealed.
