A second Greene King-owned pub has shut for good.

The Butley Ash on London Road has confirmed it has closed its doors for the final time.

It comes as the Rising Sun, on Congleton Road, prepares to serves its final pints later today - Saturday, April 25.

A post shared by the Butley Ash on Friday night reads: "This isn't something we ever imagined saying, and it's hard to put into words just how gutted we all feel that this chapter has come to an end.

"The Butley Ash has been more than just a place to eat and drink — it's been a space filled with laughter, memories, friendships, and community.

"We want to say a heartfelt thank you to every single person who has walked through our doors, supported us, shared special moments here, and made it what it was. Your custom, loyalty, and kindness have meant everything to us.

"While it's incredibly difficult to say goodbye, we're choosing to look ahead to new adventures and opportunities, carrying with us all the amazing memories we've created together.

"From the bottom of our hearts — thank you."

Earlier this month, national pub chain Greene King confirmed consultations were underway regarding the potential closures of both the Rising Sun and the Butley Ash, which operates under the Chef and Brewer brand.

This was said to be part of their 'typical annual business activity'.

A spokesperson added: "Making the decision to close pubs is never an easy one and multiple factors are always considered before a final outcome is agreed."

In a separate move, Greene King is 'exploring all options' for the Blacksmiths Arms on Chelford Road.

On Tuesday, April 21, the pub posted: "We're aware that some of you may have seen recent news about us potentially closing. We just want to clarify that this is not the case at the moment.

"While we are going through a transitional phase, it's very much business as usual. That said, the recent news has had an impact on us, and we'd really appreciate your support during this time.

"We hope to continue seeing both new and familiar faces through our doors — it truly makes a difference. Thank you for your continued support."
