World-renowned Macclesfield rock band The Virginmarys have released their first new song in over three years.

The Meds is a raw and concert-ready hard rock track, and the first they've released as a duo in over half a decade.

Having released three critically acclaimed albums playing as a trio, Danny Dolan and Ally Dickaty decided to take on the next phase as a power duo, and powerful it certainly is.

The punk-like guitar riff will stick in your brain, quite apt given the drug-like connotations and themes within the track.

For first time listeners, a good comparison for the song's sound would be for fans of Royal Blood.

The track is from their upcoming fourth album, which is as of yet untitled.

The Meds comes with a three-and-a-half minute music video that you can watch at the top of this article.

In the video, Dickaty plays an estate agent character in a dead end job, who reaches for The Meds as his escape mechanism.

The majority of the video was shot in what the band described as "the most Haunted house in Macclesfield".

Shooting also took place in the office building for Matmi and Courthouse Collective on Park Green.

The band - who live in Macclesfield - were founded in our town in 2009.

The Virginmarys have charted in the UK and US.

They've toured the world, and will play in Europe later this year.

As well as creating thumping rock music, they are also known for their philanthropy.

In 2017, the band raised thousands of pounds with a charity single to help Macclesfield's homeless people.

Last October, they also played a charity gig for The Christie, at Christ Church on Bridge Street.

The Virginmarys are on tour in the UK throughout March, and will perform a single launch party for The Meds in Manchester on Saturday.

They will perform at Macclesfield's Party in the Pews Festival next month.

Details on their upcoming album will be released on their social media.

The lyrics for The Meds can be found below.

The lyrics were penned by Ally Dickaty. Music by The Virginmarys.

The Meds

Lost in the fog

Fuzzy and grey

Regular job

Regular pay

Three square meals Three square meals Leasing a car

Renting a house

Shut down the mind Open your mouth

Here comes the medicine

Keep up the pace

Swallow the pain

It runs down the face

Like tears in the rain

Each day the same, it's again and again Free as a rat in a wheel

Here comes the medicine

Give me my medicine

Running around, not making a sound Free as a rat in a wheel

Get a little low now, get alone now, get a little low now

In it for life

And life makes me sick

I got a new loan

In just a few clicks

I'm like a time bomb

Tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tock, tick. Give me my medicine

Each day the same, it's again and again Free as a rat in a wheel Got an event going on in Macclesfield? Macclesfield Nub News can help spread the word about it.
